What a absolutely beautiful run! My very first half (that I dreaded more than anticipated) could not have been better. What a great group of people putting race on! Started on time with no confusion. The community support was great from boy scouts to area cheerleaders! The big posters at each mile were really great too! I actually thanked my bff for dragging me thru training…..totally worth it!
I thought it was a great race! I was a little dissappointed in the local support but I was equally pleased with the out of town participation. It is so nice to have an event like this local. I love to run the race but I may volunteer to help next year. A big thanks to the ones that work and make this event possible.
My first half marathon! The course was beautiful and I loved every minute of running it! Plenty of water/gatorade stations with friendly people passing out the drinks.
I was disappointed that my friend who pre-registered was not found on the pre-registered list and did not receive a bag full of goodies. She was able to get a race bib and run despite the fact that her name was not on the list. The ordeal un-nerved us a little and put us behind in getting stretched and ready to run.
Was also disappointed that we did not get a sandwich after the race because there was no more food. We finished well within the time limit.
Looking forward to running this half next year. Thanks!
Beautiful course! I loved running over the bridges. Also love the running trails through the woods. It was really neat to beable to watch the video online and see what to expect for the run. I love the fact that you walk out of the Marriott and are ready to start the race. No need to get up way early and travel. Race was very organized. Love the posters to mark the miles and the support. Loved all the cheerleaders scattered out through the last mile-definitely needed that support! Just had to laugh though at one group of girls that were sitting down cheering. This was my second half and was way different than my first where there were 32,000 runners. I love that this one was small and personal. I heard there were sandwhiches at the end but they were all gone when I finished. I was happy to get a bananna and orange slice. Thank you to everyone who made this a wonderful experience!
I originally decided to come down to do the race because it would be my first 1/2 marathon and although I live in Arkansas now, my heart is still in Alabama. I invited some friends here to come down and they were able to come also. They had never visited the Shoals area and loved it! They did some Christmas shopping before and after the race and also found there are so many other things they want to see or do the NEXT time they come to the Shoals. They even told their hotel they would be back next year for the race.
I can’t believe this was just the 2nd year to have a race. You guys really know what you’re doing! Everything was so organized! Great Job!
Now if we can just get the word out about the race, you will be like St Jude and have to limit the number of entrants into your race in no time! Runners talk and pass the word about races they’ve enjoyed and I think this will be on everybody’s list.
Thanks again for all your hard work!

I love this race! The ’09 running was my first half marathon and I liked it so well, I had to do it again. I currently live in Hueytown, but grew up in Phil Campbell. I too hope this race grows to a point that the field has to be limited. However, if the field begins to grow too much, you may want to look at altering the start of the race to prevent bunching at the start. Looking forward to doing this race again in 2011!
